President Ruto visits Ethiopia

President William Ruto is on a second day visit to Addis Ababa Ethiopia for the 36th Ordinary session of the African Union, Heads of States and Government summit. The assembly comes while the world is suffering unprecedented negative effects of climate change, Africa as a continent enduring harsh reality of this change that is coupled with acute food shortage. The first day discussions of the summit centered around this global climatic change and what African states need to do collectively to address this problem that is threatening the future of the continent

President William Ruto while addressing the assembly painted a grim picture of the effects of climate change and challenged the world to embrace a paradigm shift in approach to climate change in order to facilitate a broad-spectrum solution to the problem.

‘’The world needs a new paradigm in the funding of climate action to roll back the devastating effects of climate change. The current financial system is no longer fit for purpose and piecemeal reforms are not the answer; we need a complete overhaul,’’ he said.

While shifting the focus to the African continent, president Ruto alongside other heads of states held crucial discussions on the persistent problem of volatile peace and security in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ever present rebels and militia’s in the eastern part of the nation that has left hundreds dead is a serious crisis that has informed numerous meetings in recent past by East African member states in efforts aimed at arriving at a permanent solution. President Ruto who has spearheaded such meetings called for continued dialogue on how to end the menace

President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco of Angola, Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, and Paul Kagame of Rwanda were present during the meeting.
