President William Ruto has apologized to Kenyans over Shakahola’s mass murder stating that he acknowledges laxity from some of his government officials over the issue.

"As President, I accept responsibility for this (the Shakahola murders), which should not have occurred. We will investigate this thoroughly, that is the pledge I am making to Kenyans.

He assured the citizens that the commission of inquiry that was formed was meant to help unravel how the backstory of the killings at Paul Mackenzie's church as well as help in netting his accomplices.
Ruto added said that Opposition Raila Odinga's visit to the Shakahola site was irresponsible stating that the site became an active investigation scene completely under the control of investigative agencies.
"To go there as a political figure, what does it help? Is he a security expert? doctor? Does he go to exhume bodies? What did he go to do when the place has been declared no longer a crime scene? I will go to Malindi.’’ he said.
He urged those against the church regulations to reconsider their stand, especially in the wake of the deaths at Shakahola.
