Petitioner Seeks Chief Justice Martha Koome's Removal From Office After Housing Levy Ruling

In a recent development, Michael Kojo Otieno has formally submitted a petition to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), urging the removal of Chief Justice Martha Koome from her esteemed position. Otieno alleges that the Chief Justice violated legal procedures in appointing members to the tax appeal tribunal.

The petitioner contends that Chief Justice Koome, in her role, neglected the proper execution of powers granted to her by the Tax Appeal Tribunal Act. 

The crux of Otieno's argument lies in the claim that the Chief Justice failed to uphold transparency and honesty in the exercise of her judicial powers during the appointment process.

The petition asserts, "While appointing persons to serve at the tax appeal tribunal, the judge failed to be honest in the execution of powers conferred to her by the Tax Appeal Tribunal Act based on powers conferred to the judge as a judicial officer..."

As this legal challenge unfolds, it brings to light concerns about adherence to legal protocols in the appointment of tribunal members and raises questions about the Chief Justice's actions in this specific matter. 

The JSC will now undertake a careful examination of the petition, considering both the allegations made by Otieno and Chief Justice Koome's response.
