The violent protest erupted on Tuesday night in Ngor a town in Dakar, when school children were demonstrating against the building of a police station instead of a high school.

The protestors then got engaged in running battles with the police who tried dispersing them with teargas

The protestors have complained and criticized the government over not paying attention to the people of Senegal.

Police officers were put at each checkpoint to prevent journalists and residents from entering Ngor, the Senegalese spokesperson Abdou Karim Fofan put out a statement saying, “We have to maintain operations to keep law and order to protect the population,”

He also said, “People should be able to demonstrate but people should also be able to go to work and to schools without being stopped by demonstrations.”
