Ferdinand Omanyala to battle Henricho Bruintjies

Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala is expected to battle with the African Bronze Medalist, Henricho Bruintijies from South Africa, during the second athletics Kenya track and field Meeting finals at the Nyayo stadium this Friday.

This will be the first set-up where Omanyala and Bruintijies will meet since the Africa Athletics Championships at Cote d’Ivoire in June last year.

Home sprinter, Ferdinand Omanyala won the concluding 100 meters at the Kipkeino Classic last year after he clocked 9.85 seconds, leaving Akani Simbine from South Africa in second place whereas Bruintijies came in third clocking 10.01 seconds.

The 2018 commonwealth 100m silver medalist is currently training in Kenya alongside Omanyala for the World Athletics Championship scheduled in Budapest from 19th to 27th August and the 2024 Olympic games.

To beat Omanyala, one has to clock a sub-10 performance which Omanyala says is open for anyone to try, he is confident of striking the sub-10 or even deeper.  The commonwealth 100m champion spoke about having a great indoor season experience in France after he clocked 6.54 seconds which is holding greatness and looking forward to an impressive 2-day event.

Besides Omanyala the other expected champions include former national 200m champion Collins Omae, Samuel Imeta and Dan Kiviasi. Pius Adome and Emmanuel Aboda will represent Uganda by competing in both the 100m and 200m race, Shida Leni in the 200m and Bensot Okot in the 100 meters.

Currently, the registration of senior athletes is ongoing and will be closed on Thursday evening. In addition, vetting of the under-18 and under-20 athletes will be carried out on Friday before the event commences.

Huge numbers are expected in the second athletics Kenya Track and Field Meeting since the trials for the East and Central Africa under 18 and under 20 athletics championships, are scheduled from 10th to 11th March at Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Dar es Salaam.
