Hannah Nyambura Ndugire, an elderly woman who chained herself and called for justice at the gates of Nyandarua County Hall, has died at the age of 62.

The news of her death was confirmed by Nyandarua County Governor Moses Ndirangu Badilisha.

She has been eulogized as a hardworking woman who made significant contributions to the local construction industry.

Her family firmly believes that her demise resulted from constant stress and pain from battling with the previous government to pay her dues to stop auctioneers from selling her properties.

“Her health condition started deteriorating during the time she was fighting for the payments leading to several protests from the residents,” said Raphael Ndugire (Son).

“She was heavily indebted; she had taken loans to do the jobs. The situation worsened when auctioneers came after her property, she had to sell almost every family asset, she was depressed yet she had successfully implemented the project,” he lamented.

Nyandarua County Moses Ndirangu condoled the family.

"The death of Ndugire is a great loss not just to Nyandarua but to the entire country and proponents of gendered development," he said.

Despite her absence and inability to enjoy the fruits of her labour, the governor promised to settle the disputes with the county government.

“It is my undertaking, and that of the County Government of Nyandarua, that the resolution arrived between the parties will be honoured upon fulfilment of the agreed process,” the governor noted.
