It is 1st of May but the flash floods that have continued to wreak havoc are still being witnessed across the country. The meteorological department together with a circular from the Government Spokesperson gave an advisory that the heavy rains will continue countrywide in the period between 29th April and 6th May.
Kenyans have woken up this morning to floods after the rains poured down heavily the whole of yesterday night. Areas of Kitengela and Thika Road have been most affected.
In Kitengela, water has got into the houses and movement has been restricted. This is after a seasonal river burst its banks. Estates have been flooded leaving residents stranded.
The Kenya Red Cross team has been leading rescue operations around Deliverance Road, Balozi Road, Baraka Road, Blessed Court, New Valley, Changombe, and KAG area.
In Thika Road, the section between Kahawa Sukari and Kenyatta University has become unpassable. People are being urged to use alternative routes.
Some sections of Mombasa Road are also flooded especially around the Eastern Bypass. Kenyans are being urged to stay safe and move to higher grounds.
The Mai Mahiu death toll has hit 51 today as the Government Pathologist is set to begin conducting post-mortems on the bodies beginning today.
