Omar Keah, 38, the driver to Kilifi North Member of Parliament Owen Baya, is currently battling for his life in a local hospital after a severe car accident on the Kilifi Malindi highway. The crash occurred in the Roka area at approximately 7:30 pm as Keah was en route to Malindi airport to pick up the MP.

Keah was behind the wheel of a Mercedes S-Class owned by the MP when the accident transpired. According to Kilifi North Sub-county police commander Kenneth Maina, the driver collided with a lorry traveling in the same direction during an attempt to overtake it.

"The driver was heading towards Malindi when he attempted to overtake a lorry. Unfortunately, he misjudged the maneuver and rammed into the lorry. The vehicle rolled several times and subsequently burst into flames, resulting in its destruction," Maina reported.

The incident has left the community in shock, with many expressing concern for Keah's well-being. The severity of the accident and the subsequent fire have intensified worries about his recovery.

MP Owen Baya recounted the sequence of events leading up to the accident. "I called Omar at 6 pm when I was boarding a plane in Nairobi. He was on his way to pick me up from the Malindi airport," Baya said. The MP, visibly shaken by the news, has expressed his deep concern and is closely monitoring Keah's condition.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, managing to extricate Keah from the wreckage before the flames consumed the vehicle entirely. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where medical staff are currently working tirelessly to stabilize him.

The Kilifi North police department has launched a thorough investigation into the accident to determine the exact cause and circumstances. Preliminary reports suggest that visibility and road conditions at the time may have played a role.

This tragic incident underscores the ongoing issues of road safety in the region, prompting calls for increased measures to prevent such occurrences in the future. As the investigation continues, the community and Keah's family remain hopeful for a positive outcome.
