Tougher times ahead for motorists should Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen propositions sail through after he hinted at increasing fuel levy as entailed in the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) by 39 per cent from the current Ksh 18 to a staggering KSh 25 per liter.

Murkomen revealed this while appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning as part of the ongoing consultations on Finance Bill 2024.
CS Murkomen says the increase has been necessitated as a result of the current challenges the sector faces.
"We propose an increase in the RMLF rate from KSh 18 to KSh 25 per litre," confirmed CS Murkomen

The Roads CS argued that Kenya's road network's value currently stands at KSh 3.999 trillion urging members to consider ministry proposals to safeguard the road infrastructure from deterioration and loss of value especially from the most recently witnessed heavy rains and floods that wreaked havoc including the destruct
