Lawyer Miguna Miguna responds to President William Ruto’s remarks on initiating a constitutional amendment to ‘enrich Kenya's democratic experience.
According to Miguna, Kenyan constitution does not require any form of amendment as proposed by President Ruto. He says that all that the constitution requires is honest and consistent implementation, application, and respect.
"I will say it for the avoidance of doubt. There is nothing wrong with the Constitution. No defect. No errors. Nothing that requires amendments or mutilations. The Constitution of Kenya requires honest and consistent implementation, application, and respect. Period!" Miguna Miguna stated.
The veteran lawyer reminded President William Ruto against forgetting Kenya Kwanza's agenda of championing the rule of law.
"That wasn’t the platform on which William Ruto was elected! Thank me later!" he further stated.
Miguna made it clear to President Ruto that he was ready to initiate a movement to protect the Constitution from unnecessary amendment.
"If Kenya Kwanza wants to invite their waterloo the way Napoleon did in 1815, let them call a referendum on their attempt to mutilate the Constitution of Kenya. We dare anyone to try," he stated.
On Friday, December 9, President William Ruto addressed the Senate and National Assembly speakers in a memo asking them to initiate constitutional amendments that would create a position for the leader of the opposition in the constitution.
"A number of these opportunities call for measures to adjust the constitutional framework," President Ruto stated.
