New details have emerged that the bus involved in the road accident along Isiolo- Meru road, killing twelve people, was not just any common bus but a mobile luxury mini club. The bus was a customized luxury party minibus for party lovers who enjoy such outings. The now disastrous bus was reportedly overtaking another vehicle when it hit a fourteen- seater matatu before crashing into a trailer. Eleven people died on the spot including the bus driver while one succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in hospital.
“We were on an adventure trip and we were excited.” One of the survivors said.
KAX 998P was the bus’s registration number. It was also labeled ‘party on wheels’ which is believed to be the name of the entertainment company which offered entertainment services in form of customized buses and vans. Those who hired the bus also enjoyed a customized seating arrangement with comfortable cushions and dancing space. The mini club provides drinks, screens as well as a DJ booth.
“The bus had a club with seats, tables, and a liquor section. The passengers appeared to have been partying, ” confirmed an eyewitness.
“The two vehicles (the bus and the matatu) were going down the hill when the bus lost control, hitting the matatu that veered off to a ditch. Seven people from the matatu lost their lives on the spot, while four others including the driver of the bus were killed after it also hit a lorry.” Reported a police officer at the scene
As of Sunday morning, doctors said that twenty-one more are still admitted at St Theresa Kiirua hospital and that two had been discharged. The vehicles were towed to the Subuiga police station yard, while the bodies were moved to Meru Level Five Hospital mortuary.
