A man impersonating a Firearms Licensing Board (FLB) officer is at Muthaiga Police Station after being apprehended with several bogus FLB documents and stamps at his Nguluni residence in Matungulu, Machakos County, by Transnational Organized Crime detectives.

Dominic Ondari Ombogi, 42, was detained last weekend as a result of a court order obtained from the Kahawa Law Courts after intelligence reports placed him at the heart of a heinous syndicate that gave forged handgun certificates to unvetted applicants.

In the classic case, Ondari has been battling accusations of Stealing a Firearm and Making a Document without Authority at the City Court, & has been out on Kes.500,000 bond.

In the current case, he duped a Kajiado teenager into thinking he could transfer the certificate of his late father's pistol into his (the young man's) name, before putting the unwary victim to interminable paperwork that resulted in the firearm's theft.

According to preliminary investigations, Ondari, who poses as a well-connected resource person on the Board, has only functioned in the underground and has never been on the Firearms Licensing Board, as he claims.

However, assorted filled firearm application forms, psychiatrist reports from Mathari Referral Hospital with different names, a seal from the Central Firearms Bureau, various FLB and Armatech Kenya Ltd rubber stamps, four civilian firearm certificates, forged letters allegedly from the Nairobi region police command, and several bank statements were seized during his arrest.

It has been proved that Ondari, in collaboration with others who pose as board officials, seeks susceptible victims who are eager to be cleared for gun ownership, irresponsibly supplying bogus certificates to anyone as long as good money changes hands.

Ondari is so smart that he renews the certifications on a regular basis for Sh 6,000.

Custodial orders were given to keep the suspect in custody until March 10, 2023, when the case will be heard at the Kahawa Law Courts.

Meanwhile, the DCI urges anybody who may have been a victim of this felony to contact the Transnational Organized Crime Section at DCI Headquarters Block B Room 47.
