Manchester City collected all the three points after thrashing Arsenal 3-1.

The defending champions weren't ready for Arsenal to open up the gap in contending for the Premier league title.

Despite Arteta squad's  impressive run in the season and topping the table standing for a couple of months, Manchester City was the better side in their match held at Emirates stadium, yesterday.

Belgium international midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne scored the first goal after a careless back-pass from Arsenal’s defense line. However, Bukayo Saka leveled the scores with a contentious penalty a few minutes to the half time whistle.

In the second half, Jack Grealish reinstated the Cityzens’ lead after a spectacular build up move from his teammates.

Super striker Erling Halaand shuttered the home team's hopes to secure a single point by scoring his 26th goal after 22 appearances for the Cityzens in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, the Gunners have a game in hand that could earn them a win to top the table once again.

Arsenal haven’t registered a win in their last four games. They lost to Manchester City in the FA Cup before a shock defeat by Everton and a 1-1 draw against Brentford in the league.

On the other hand, Manchester City have won four of their last five games to earn them points, closing the gap against the tripping Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta who was the assistant manager to Pep Guardiola at Manchester city before landing at Emirates as a manager found it hard to register a win against his former teacher.

Pep Guardiola being City’s coach, the team has won seven of their eight meetings against his former student Arteta's Arsenal most of those meetings being crucial to both teams.

The Cityzen’s win declared a refreshing title race since both teams have 51 points but Manchester City leads with a higher goal difference.
