A family in Kaloleni Kilifi County is crying for justice after their 35-year-old loved one died mysteriously inside the Kizurini police station on January 11th 2023.
Police indicated that the deceased Santa Kaingu used a blanket to commit suicide at the station with the family reading malice into the claim maintaining that their kin may have died as a result of being beaten by the officers who arrested him.
The deceased mother Lydiah Masika has called on the government to intervene and find the cause of his son’s death and those involved be charged in a court of law.

Kaloleni Member of Parliament Paul Katana has strongly condemned the act noting that it is the second case this year in the area where two people have died after being arrested by the police.
Katana has said he will submit a bill in parliament that will compel interior cabinet secretary Kithure Kindiki together with the inspector general of police Japhet Koome to investigate the behaviour of police officers across the country with Hussein Khalid, a human rights defender from Haki Africa adding that the government should come forward and investigate the case.
Santa Kaingu’s case is one among many mysterious deaths under police custody with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) noting that between January and June of 2022, 1,324 complaints against the police were filed.
