A tragic incident occurred in Nandi County after a 30-year-old man was on Monday, July 25, buried alive while digging a pit latrine at Jean Marie Secondary school.
Josphat, who was among the three men contracted to dig the pit at the school, was trapped after the walls of the pit collapsed while inside at around 2:00 pm.
. Nicholas Odungo, who was part of the excavation team said the incident happened when the three were finishing their work. The toilet was 30 feet. Odungo and his colleagues had gone to get chamcha when the incident happened.
“We had gone to lunch and we told him to continue digging. We returned shortly after to help him remove the soil and while we were in the process of tying the ropes, the walls sank,” Odungo said.
Josephat, a father of three, is still stuck in the rubble as rescue efforts continue as distraught residents are now calling on the county and national government to help with rescue efforts.
“It is very sad that we were finishing our work before we were paid but what happened has affected us a lot, we are asking the rescue team and disaster management to come and rescue Josphat who has been trapped since 2:00 at night. ,” one resident said.
