Cody Gakpo, a Dutch international forward, has reportedly agreed to join Liverpool after PSV Eindhoven made the announcement on Monday. Gakpo, who led the Netherlands in scoring with three goals at the World Cup, has previously been linked to a transfer to Liverpool's rival Manchester United.

Cody Gakpo's proposed transfer has been agreed upon, according to a statement from PSV and Liverpool FC. "The 23-year-old attacker will depart for England shortly, where he will go through the necessary formalities before the deal is finalized."

The transfer cost, according to PSV general manager Marcel Brands, would be a record for the Dutch club. Reports state that the cost could increase to 50 million euros ($53 million, £44 million). Gakpo's arrival adds to Liverpool's frontline's renewal after the recent additions of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

After a dismal start to the season, the Reds are currently sixth in the Premier League, five points outside the top four spots that guarantee entrance to the Champions League. But on Monday, when the Premier League resumed play following the World Cup, Jurgen Klopp's team defeated Aston Villa 3-1 to earn their third straight league victory.
