KVF President Waithaka Kioni Dies Over Short Illness

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) boss Waithaka Kioni has passed away after a short illness.

The 70years-old fell sick yesterday and he was taken to hospital where he died at around 1a.m today morning, for what is said to be a cardiac arrest according to the National Olympic Committee of Kenya(N-OKC) statement.

“NOCK is overwhelmed to learn of the departure of an Executive Member of the team and a passionate volleyball leader for years. We wish to send our condolences to the family, friends and volleyball associates in the country and across Africa. We are talking with the family and volleyball leadership and we will provide more details”.

Cabinet secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba has also sent his tribute to the family and sports fraternity.
“Waithaka Kioni was a passionate sports person and leader more so in the volleyball game”. Says Ababu.

Waithaka is a former student of University of Nairobi where he studied Public Administration and then he joined Standard Group PLC for one year, later he left for Kenya Pipeline Company in 1980 as a Public Relation officer.

Kioni was elected the chairman of Kenya Volleyball Association in 1998 that was later named Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) in the year 2000. KVF elections were to be held on April this month.
