Kemsa CEO Dr. Andrew Mulwa Feted
The current Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority KEMSA Dr. Andrew Mulwa has been recognized for his exemplary leadership and his commitment to delivering quality healthcare in the country.
Dr. mulwa has been confirmed as the winner of the prestigious African Governance Award 2024 for his outstanding work that has elevated kemsa as Africa’s most outstanding Medical Supplies Authority
In a letter seen by Lookup Digital, Dr. Mulwa emerged top in Africa from a pool of experts drawn from a number of African countries who were subjected to a rigorous selection process.
The award notes that Dr. Mulwa has demonstrated impeccable conduct, performance, leadership and impact that has changed the face of the country’s medical supplies authority KEMSA, which previously suffered poor leadership and deep rooted corruption.
The award additionally recognizes the role Dr. Mulwa has played in shaping public discourse in Africa’s ongoing political and socio-economic renaissance
Dr. Andrew Mulwa is not a new name in Kenya’s Health Sector reforms. Having received recognition for his exemplary work while working as CEC Health in Makueni county, he was named the acting CEO of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority in May 2023.
At the time when he took over the leadership of KEMSA, the authority was reeling from corruption that had left the country counting losses in the tune of 3.7 billion from corruption embedded in tender malpractices during the covid 19 pandemic. He was therefore entrusted with the responsibility to rid the authority of the mess that had seen two of its previous CEO’s fired
His latest recognition for his work at KEMSA by the African Governance Awards team, is testament that his well cut out work to clean the KEMSA authority and restore public confidence in the medical supplies chain in the country is afoot and on a firm grounding.
Dr. Mulwa will receive the award in a conference and gala award ceremony that will be held in Mauritius from 7th -10th of February this year.
