KCB Launches First Edition of East African Golf Tour

The Kenya Commercial Bank has expanded its wings in the sports industry as it launched the first edition of the East Africa Golf Tour. 

The tour will include competitors from Six East Africa Countries including Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. However, in Kenya the tour will have legs in twelve different counties across the country.

 The tour will last for eight months, with seventeen legs for the amateurs in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will be hosting two series each while Rwanda, Burundi and DRC fielding one series each.

In addition, the tournament will give room for golf enthusiasts of all categories a room to sharpen their skills, with junior, amateurs and professionals featured in the series. 

The bank has facilitated the series with Ksh.60m, in the bid to nurture talents and give a platform to compete locally and regionally in the intentions to grow golf in the country and all over Africa.

The Kenya legs of the tournaments will be hosted at Vetlab Sports Club, Eldoret Golf Club, Limuru Golf Club, Railway Golf Club, Kakamega Golf Club, Nyanza Golf Club, Thika Sports Club, Nyeri Golf Club, Nakuru Golf Club, Kericho Golf Club, Great Rift Valley Lodge, Kitale Golf Club, Machakos Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club, Nyali Golf Club, Nandi Bears Golf Club and Karen Country Club.

The golfers that will be crowned champions will converge at Karen Country and golf club for the grand finale where over 160 golfers will participate, the final will be held in November 2023.

KCB Group Human Resource Director Japheth Ochilo has said that it is time for the club to expand its talent nurturing initiative locally to regionally.

“We have a great history in supporting the golf game from way back and we now intend to expand our support in the game to regional level”. said Ochilo.

He further added that the game has grown and it is time to give women, juniors and amateurs an opportunity to sharpen the skills

“The game has grown and we now need to focus on giving junior, women and amateur golfers a chance to showcase their skills and compete in the tournament.

 CS Ababu Namwamba appreciated the contribution of Kenya Commercial Bank in the game for the past 30 years.

 “We are happy as a government to be associated with KCB who are making an impact in the sports industry and we will continue performing impactful programs with the private sectors with such projects” said Namwamba.

 KCB also intends to plant 1.5million trees within the 8 months of the series to curb climate change.
