Kawira is charged with serious misbehavior and misuse of power. Kawira had first declined to take the witness stand during the session, saying that doing so would have violated her rights. The governor cannot be compelled to testify, according to the law. Since she hasn't provided any oral testimony to the committee, we can't subject the governor to cross-examination, according to Mutuma.

Added him; "The defendant has the right to remain silent and request that the court draw any conclusions from her silence. The prosecution of this impeachment motion must present evidence, and then it is up to us to contest and refute it."

Muthomi Thiankolu, a lawyer for the Meru County Assembly, stated to the committee that his team would have liked to have had the chance to draw attention to the inconsistencies in Kawira's sworn statements. The governor was not one of the witnesses we named as ones we intended to rely on.

All of the accusations made against the governor were addressed by the chief of staff, Harrison Gitonga, in his testimony before this committee, he claimed.

Murega Baichu, the husband of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, was alleged by MCAs to be a county employee, but Harrison Gitonga, who also serves as Kawira's private secretary, asserted during cross-examination that Baichu is not a county employee and does not receive any compensation.

Gitonga stated, "The First Gentleman is not a member of the staff and neither does he have a physical office nor a letter of appointment. Governor Kawira Mwangaza is accused by the Meru County Assembly of breaking the law at least once every day between September 6, when she took office, and November 9.

Mwangaza has maintained her innocence throughout the course of her impeachment proceedings. This Friday, the Senate will meet in special session to discuss the impeachment report from the committee.
