Detectives have apprehended two suspects after they were found red-handed slaughtering donkeys in a thicket in Ndeiya, Kiambu County, and retrieved over 30 fresh carcasses of the animal.
Patrick Muiruri, 29, and Elizabeth Wangeci, 32, were detained after a raid at the slaughter area, w Rwasumali village in an open field surrounded by a thicket.
This comes after multiple complaints from locals in Limuru and its vicinity about the disappearance of donkeys.
Two vehicles used to transport the boneless meat to unsuspecting customers have been impounded. According to reports after slaughtering, the meat is distributed to butcher shops where the meat is packaged, and the donkey's intestines, kidneys, and other internal organs are sold to vendors that sell the popular roadside delicacies Mutura, supu, and matumbo.
The two suspects are currently being held Ndeiya police station ahead of their arraignment.
