ICGJ Award Celebrates John Allan Namu Impactful Investigative Journalism

Renowned Kenyan journalist John Allan Namu, has been awarded the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) International Journalist Award. This prestigious accolade, announced on June 12, 2024, recognizes Namu's fearless investigative work and significant impact on society.

Namu, a co-founder of the groundbreaking media organization Africa Uncensored, has dedicated his career to exposing corruption, human rights abuses, and environmental issues across Africa. His reports have sparked national debates and led to policy changes highlighting his dedication to truth and justice.

This year's ICFJ Awards also honored Maria Gomez from Spain and Pedro da Silva from Brazil. Maria Gomez received the Knight International Journalism Award for her outstanding coverage of human trafficking and organized crime, which led to legal reforms. Pedro da Silva won the Excellence in Digital Journalism Award for his innovative reporting on Amazon deforestation which mobilized international efforts to protect the rainforest.

“These journalists stand out for their brave work exposing abuses of power, in places where it is both highly challenging and dangerous,” ICFJ President Sharon Moshavi said. “From corruption to war crimes, the outstanding journalism they have done has led to greater accountability and change.”

The three winners will be honored on November 14 at the 40th Anniversary ICFJ Tribute to Journalists in Washington, D.C.
