On Saturday, January 14, President William Ruto apologized heartfeltly to outspoken Lawyer Miguna Miguna for his deportation to Canada in 2018.
The head of state admitted that what the previous administration had done to him was unjust, and he apologized.
“I am Sorry for what Government did to you. I am very sorry. It was unfair. I apologize,” the President told Miguna Miguna according to Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi.
Miguna acknowledged the President’s apology in a post shared via his official Twitter account, stating that he had accepted the President's and the government's apologies.
"President William Ruto, the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, earlier this morning apologized to me on his behalf and on behalf of the Government for the brutality inflicted upon me by the previous regime. I accept the apology," he stated.
Miguna's dramatic deportation to Canada by the previous administration, in which Ruto served as Deputy President, prompted the apologies.
The Outspoken lawyer was deported to Canada, where he is also a citizen, for his role in the unofficial inauguration of opposition leader Raila Odinga as "the people's president" in 2018.
He finally returned to the country on October 20, 2022, thanks to Ruto's assistance.
Miguna arrived in Kenya and immediately attended the Mashujaa celebrations on October 20, 2022 in Kasarani, followed by a luncheon at State House in Nairobi.
The meeting on January 14 was the President's second public engagement with Miguna.
