On Saturday, the national police service issued a traffic alert on the situation on Mombasa Road that has been occasioned by heavy rains in the city.
In a statement, the NPS called on motorists using Mombasa Road to be extra cautious and avoid overlapping.
"A section of Mombasa Road near Sultan Hamud township has been flooded. This has resulted in a snarl-up of traffic along that section of the busy highway," the statement read in part.
NPS also said police officers are on the ground controlling the traffic and monitoring the situation.
“While Police Officers are on the ground controlling the traffic and monitoring the situation, we wish to appeal to all motorists approaching Sultan Hamud to drive carefully, be patient and avoid overlapping,” NPS said.
On different parts of the country on Saturday morning experienced heavy rains causing floods in several estates around the city.
The meteorological department in their weekly forecast shows that rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country in the coming days.
