Health Cabinet Secretary, Susan Nakhumicha instructs more than 200 employees of Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, (KEMSA) to report to work on 19th May 2023.
The 200 employees have been working from home since 2021 after the board at KEMSA sent them to allow organizational restructuring following the Ksh7.8 billion Covid-19 scandal.
Nakhumicha ordered the employees to report to their offices during the inauguration of the new KEMSA board that took place at Embakasi depot on 18th May 2023. The inauguration saw the appointment of new KEMSA members.
She also added that it did not make sense to pay over 200 employees who have stayed at home for two years in the name of Covid-19.
Nakhumicha gives this order a few days when she vowed not to tolerate any kind of malpractice in her ministry and also said she will not accept officials to continue spoiling the name of KEMSA.
On 15th May, President William Ruto made changes at KEMSA after the Ksh 3.7 billion mosquito net deal scandal. Ruto dismissed the whole KEMSA team led by the former chairperson Daniel Rono.
