National Football Team Harambee Stars have not been paid their allowances of Ksh 54,700 after their friendly match against Iran on March 28, 2023.
Harambee Stars lost 2-1 in a friendly match held at Azadi Stadium in Tehran. Star skipper Micheal Olunga opened the scoreboard for Kenya in the 50th minute, but goals from Mohammad Mohebbi and Ramin Rezaeian on 76 and 85 minutes ensured Team Melli maintained their lead over the visitors.
It was Harambee stars’ first international match after world governing football Fifa lifted the suspension which was imposed on Kenya from February 24 to November 27 last year due to government interference.
Before taking on Iran, Harambee Stars was scheduled to play Burundi but opted out making Kenya look like an alternative to gauge themselves after one year of not playing International matches.
Harambee stars’ last international action was against Rwanda when they beat neighbours 2-1 at Nyayo National Stadium in Group E 2022 World Cup qualifiers in 2012 in November 2021.
Engine Firat’s side missed the opportunity to play in the 2023 Africa Championships and 2024 Africa Cup of Nations due to the ban.
The ban by Fifa also affected the Ladies’ national team Harambee starlets who missed out on continental and World Cup qualifiers.
