Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta has hinted that Arsenal will be able to sign a striker in January. With the injury suffered by Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal could look to make a big-money striker signing in the January transfer window in their search to find a replacement for Gabriel Jesus. Jesus who is currently sidelined with a long-term knee problem, sustained the injury in Brazil's shock defeat by Cameroon.
There have been suggestions the Gunners could dip into the transfer market to add to their options up-front. But Arteta has made it clear he is confident Nketiah can help to keep their surprise Premier League title challenge on track.
“We have more faith in Eddie every single day. We see every day what he brings to the team, what he is as a human being and the way he is developing as a player," the Arsenal boss said.
Although Jesus headed to Qatar after 10 games without scoring, his leading of the press had done so much to dictate Arsenal’s tempo and forge their adventurous attacking style. Arteta has brought out a side of Jesus rarely apparent at Manchester City. He has been their yard dog, forever snapping at the heels of opposing defenders, an irritant of a level perhaps not seen in the Premier League since Jamie Vardy was in his snarling Leicester prime.
Arteta's backing comes as Arsenal legend Martin Keown challenged the 23-year-old to prove why the Gunners handed him a new contract. Keown believes the time is right for Nketiah to show he can be a reliable frontline option.
