A Ukrainian soldier's chest has been opened up to reveal an unexploded grenade. An X-ray of the explosive close to the serviceman's heart can be seen in the before and after images posted on the Facebook page of Ukraine's military medical service.

Another image shows the surgeon carrying the bloody device. According to the post, two troops helped supervise the operation to make sure it was done securely. The group reported that the injured soldier is currently healing.

According to the social media post, electrocoagulation, a standard technique that uses an electric current to help control bleeding during surgery, was not employed since the "ammunition may detonate at any point" during the procedure.

It was also said that the weapon was a VOG grenade, a 4 cm long projectile that is fired from a grenade launcher, has a 400 m range, and is intended to detonate just above the ground.

One of Ukraine's armed forces' "most skilled surgeons," Major General Andrii Verba, performed the operation. Despite the fact that the post was made on Monday, it is unknown when or where the procedure was conducted. Medical personnel in the direct line of fire: Ukraine's secret weapon.

US claims that 200,000 people died in the conflict in Ukraine. Fighting in the country's east has continued for nearly 11 months as Ukrainian forces struggle to drive back Russian troops dispatched by Moscow.

The Wagner mercenary group declared on Tuesday that it had "stormed" the city of Soledar in the Donetsk area and was in complete possession, however Kyiv later claimed that its soldiers were resisting.

Soledar would be a strategic advantage for Russia because the city has salt mines where the invading forces could station personnel and equipment while being shielded from Ukrainian missiles.

Additionally, it is around six miles south-west of Bakhmut where Russian forces are concentrating their assault.

Following many significant defeats in Ukraine since the start of the war, including losing control of Kherson, the only provincial capital in the south it had able to conquer, gaining control in either location would be a much-needed propaganda success for Moscow.
