The much-awaited 2022 KCSE results were released on Friday with More than half of the candidates recording poor results.
While releasing the 2022 KCSE results at the Mtihani House Nairobi, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu revealed that more than half of the candidates got grades D+ and below.
A total of 881,416 students were invigilated last year with 489,081 of the students getting a mean grade of D+ and below.
Which translates to more than half the total number of students who did the exam.
135,021 students scored grade D+, with 70,238 being female and 64,783 being male.
In the data, students who scored D- were 167,758, equating to 18.99 per cent of the candidates.
CS Machogu also revealed that male students performed better than female students.
"84,075 females score a mean grade of D- with 83,683 males." Machogu said.
The D plain category had a total of 155,480 students. Males were 75,545, and females were 79,935.
A total of 30,822 students attained grade E. Gender wise, "18,062 were male, while 12,760 females."
