Today, students in grade seven are expected to begin their second phase of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
A total of 1,253,577 students are expected to enroll in junior secondary schools across the country.
Parents are in a last-minute rush to obtain all of the requirements for their children who will be enrolled.
According to Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, over 20,000 schools have so far been approved to host Junior Secondary Schools, which means that most schools will receive only one of the newly recruited teachers.
However, the transition is hampered by a lack of infrastructure and funding gaps, with the government yet to release the promised capitation of Sh15,000 per learner.
While issuing guidelines, the ministry said that the schools will co-share resources that would especially benefit the teaching of practical subjects such as integrated science, agriculture, computer science, and home science, among others.
Public schools are facing a lack of enough teachers, this is despite the Teachers Service Commission recruiting 30,000 teachers who will report today.
As a result, effective teaching and learning will be delayed.
