Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's word beef never cease to amaze Kenyans.
Recently, the two have been arguing over the proposals to ban matatus from the CBD and to crack down on nightclubs.
Not so long ago the deputy president assured matatu drivers and city business owners of government protection against Sakaja's scheme, which he claims will suffocate Nairobi's economy, and he urged them to disregard him and carry on with their operations.
However, Sakaja insisted that he is not at odds with Deputy Gachagua and suggested that the DP speak with him about the situation rather than wage war on the governor in front of large crowds.
“I'm not fighting with the deputy president, Sakaja stated in an interview with LookUp Digital, I respect him as an old guy and he is in a higher position than me in terms of the party.”
Sakaja asserts that he has the support of President William Ruto in his efforts to oust nightclubs that are located in residential neighborhoods and restore the city's "lost beauty."
Deputy Gachagua asserted that Sakaja was chosen by Kikuyus, claiming that, “I recruited Kikuyus in Nairobi to vote for him and contacted him on December 20. We must first sit down and debate each choice he makes that could have an impact on Nairobi business.”
The governor advised DP Gachagua to establish a positive working relationship with the county's executive branch, saying that the president has been on his side ever since he was chosen to lead the county in August of last year.
