The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has said that 70 of the exhumed bodies from Shakahola forest will undergo an autopsy on Thursday 27th April 2023.
The total number of bodies exhumed so far is at 94 bringing a strain in operations at different mortuaries as they do not have capacity to keep all the bodies. Kilifi County Executive Committee member for Health Peter Mwarogo, stated that the Malinidi Mortuary has a capacity of 30 bodies and the rising number of exhumed bodies are stretching resources at the facility. He noted that the hospital has resulted to use a refrigerated container.
CS Kithure Kindiki declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew for 30 days in the Chakama Ranch area until investigations are complete. The rescue mission to find more survivors of the cult as well as to locate more gravesites is ongoing in the Shakahola forest.
