Police in Nairobi have warned the public to remain vigilant in particular areas of the city where they fear Al-Shabaab militants may be planning an attack during the holiday season. The Presbyterian Guest House and Conference Center in South C, the Catholic Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace in South B, Nairobi West Mall, Capital Centre, Garden City, and T-Mall are a few of the locations mentioned.
The terrorist organization recruits youth from Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia by promising them big pay, but when they get to the training camps, they change the terms, forcing the recruits to flee to Kenya. To stop them from crossing into Kenya, more security troops have been stationed at the border between Kenya and Somalia. According to reports, the Alshabab organization is preparing to assault Nairobi. The gang has recently been responsible for the deaths of numerous innocent Kenyans through attacks in busy places including malls, churches, and schools, among others.
The terror organization attacked a military airstrip in Lamu County in January 2020, killing a number of persons. In January 2019, they also assaulted the DusitD2 complex, killing 22 civilians. On April 2, 2015, the Garissa University College was the scene of a second attack that left at least 148 people dead.
The latter incident was the bloodiest to occur in Kenya since al-Qaeda bombed the American embassy in Nairobi in 1998, killing over 200 people. Other assaults including grenades, gunshots, and explosions include the 2013 Westgate Mall incident and the attacks in Lamu and Tana River Counties in July 2014.
