Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was kidnapped by unknown people on Saturday night.
His lawyer Ndegwa Njiru stated that the occurrence happened at 11.10 pm in Ndederu, Kiambu County.
Njiru stated that his client's car was blocked by a vehicle with a Sudanese number plate. He was pulled out, put in the vehicle, and they drove away with his right-hand man.
Njiru added that the kidnappers did not introduce themselves when they drove off with Maina and his helper Felix Lakishe.
Njiru reported that they are scheduled to appear before the Makadara Law Court for a mention of the weapons case on Monday 18th September 2023. Njiru claims that the kidnapping is intentional to prevent Maina Njenga from honouring the court summons so that he could be arrested for contempt
Njenga has a pending case in court after he was arrested on July 19, 2023, and charged with being in possession of 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus, and three jembe sticks.
He appeared before Makadara Law Courts on July 25 and was released on a Ksh.100,000 bail.
He was charged alongside his right-hand man and brother.
