In response to inquiries about his whereabouts and inquiries by the police and anti-corruption authorities, the former Interior Minister Fred Matiang'i's lawyers announced on Wednesday 1, March 2023 that he is in the United Kingdom attending to a pressing, private family problem.

After allegations that Dr. Matiang'i fled the country on February 19, 2023, four days before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a summons for him to appear for questioning it was unknown where he was on Tuesday the following night.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) launched a lifestyle audit on the former influential minister in the administration of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on the same day the DCI requested the ex-travel minister's history, it was revealed.

The ex-attorneys CS's provided clarifications on Wednesday, stating that he has not fled Kenya and that he is in the United Kingdom attending to a pressing private family problem.

Through his lawyer Danstan Omari, he explained that his client had not fled from the country and further pointed out that the Former Interior Cabinet secretary left the country on Sunday 19, February 2023.

"His travels have nothing nefarious about them. He will return to carry out his regular duties as a private citizen after attending to an urgent family problem there,” the renowned city lawyer said.

“The former CS would return to the nation in due course, thus Kenyans should stop speculating about the trip,” he continued.

Matiang'i is supposed to spend two weeks in the UK, according to the attorney.

After the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) received a letter from the Immigration Department stating that the former CS was abroad, Omari made his statement the next day.
