Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nakuru County Branch has launched the season’s Under 13 and Under 15 youth league at Kihoto ground in Naivasha with the program set to identify new youthful talents in the game of football.
FKF Nakuru branch chairman Francis Oliele stated that the federation is dedicated to discovering fresh talent and fostering it for the growth of football in the nation.
Oliele went ahead to state that the program is in line with the Federation’s Manifesto and he is planning to have the program rolled out in the 11 Sub-Counties of Nakuru with an intention of expanding the program in the entire County so as to identify and nurture more talents than in the last four years.
The chairman who is serving his second term in office after successfully defending his seat in 2020 said the piloting program that started 4 years ago in Kuresoi and Nakuru towns has been fruitful since they have produced a number of players plying their trade in with clubs participating in the Kenyan top tier League.
He admitted that the Federation has been facing financial constraints and he is now calling upon cooperate world in Nakuru County to partner with the Federation for the seamless rolling of the program and this is likely to nurture more players than in the previous four years.
FKF Youth Committee Chairman Chris Amimo welcomed the launch of the youth league saying that the program will help in wiping out the high number of tournaments that are played in the grassroots but end up wasting the raw talent.
Amimo said FKF has identified Nairobi [already launched], Nakuru, Mombasa, Homabay and Migori as pilot counties before taking the program to the remaining counties. He added that the League format for the youths will ensure continuity and it will be easy for the Federation to feed the already existing Youth National teams for Under 17, Under 20 and Under 23 categories.
Lakeview Ward Representative Alex Mbugua who chairs the Committee Budget in Nakuru County Assembly said the County administration is ready to partner with the Federation in developing talents by refurbishing sports facilities such as Nakuru's Afraha stadium and Kuresoi's Keringet playing ground.
