A farmer has told the court that he thought he had won Lotto after receiving Ksh 402K from a Cooperative bank to his mobile phone.
Jared Atambo who is charged with stealing the said amount from the bank is alleged to have committed the offense between May 27th and July 2022 at an unknown place within the republic of Kenya.
He told chief magistrate Wendy Micheni that he thought he had won Lotto, Tatua tatu, or Shabiki when he received the money since he has been participating in the sporting games.
According to the prosecution the account holder, Henry Thuita who lives in the United States alerted the bank that there was a fraudulent mobile transaction in his bank account when he came back to the country in July this year.
Investigations revealed that the mobile number became inactive when the account holder got greener pastures in the USA leaving Safaricom with no option but to recycle the said mobile number which was awarded to Jared Atambo.
It is alleged that the accused accessed the bank account by dialing *667# through the said number and withdrawing the amount within a period of two months.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on a Cash bail of Ksh200k or an alternative bond of Ksh500k.
