A picture that widely circulated on social media sites gave the false impression that the Overseas Trading Company (OTC)'s an iconic structure on Ronald Ngala Street had been inaugurated.

Look up Digital through a fact check however, notes that the building is yet to be opened.

The image of the famous building circulating on social media purported to be that of the OTC building was captured in Kampala, Uganda.

Contrary to rumours that it had been taken down, a spot check by Look up Digital revealed that the building was still protected by the safety net however the construction procedure was advanced and included interior finishings like painting.

Similar to the OTC building, which has yet to be occupied, the new building in Uganda is transforming Kampala's appearance with businesses and eateries.

The two structures' shared Central Business District location and safety net, which also protected Uganda's building, make them quite comparable hence confusing Kenyans who flooded social media to express their thoughts on the famous building along Ronald Ngala street.

“The famed OTC building's net has finally been taken down,” one social media user reported.

Another user of social media commented, "When I return to Nairobi, I would get lost easily."

Given that it took more than ten years to construct, the skyscraper has become a landmark in Nairobi. It is a common name for people living in Eastlands and those who use the Machakos Bus terminal to commute upcountry.
