Ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga set to appear in Nakuru Court on Monday, May 29, 2023, alongside 11 followers over accusations of holding a meeting alleged to be connected to the Mungiki operation.

According to sources provided to Look Up Digital, the meeting was held in Wanyororo village in Nakuru County, and individuals believed to be part of the Mungiki group were present.

The authorities have seemingly beefed up security in Nakuru Court ahead of Maina Njenga's arraignment in avoidance of what occurred at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

In addition, Police officers assure that under no circumstance, will they allow anyone to meet in the area in the name of escorting Maina to Court.

Last Thursday, Police were forced to use tear gas to demobilize a group of people who had shown up at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) In support of Njenga.

This comes after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki harshly sent a warning to individuals involved in the Mungiki operation, that the government is on the watch and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“Any person or any leader, regardless of their stature or rank, serving or former, elected or not elected, trying to recruit our young people to join proscribed organisations like Mungiki, will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the law.”

“In the past, the Mt. Kenya region and other parts of our country have suffered deeply from proscribed groupings such as Mungiki. Political leaders who are trying to revive this illegal group will not be allowed or entertained,” Kindiki stated.

Thursday May 11,2023, Njenga appeared in Nakuru law court after hearing that the DCI was looking for him, but the court ordered him to report to the DCI headquarters.

The officers drove him around the city on Thursday, after which they took him to the Nairobi area office near traffic, where they released him on free bond and told him to present himself in court on Monday, May 29.
