The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has clarified the circumstances surrounding the apparent "abduction" of former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter on Sunday afternoon. In their statement, the DCI explained that Keter was not abducted, but was arrested on charges of 'Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence'.

"Contrary to the misinformation circulating on social media on the alleged abduction of Hon Alfred Keter by unknown men, this is to confirm that Hon Keter was arrested earlier today by NPS Officers for Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms and Incitement to Violence," the Directorate stated.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations refuted social media claims that Keter was abducted, clarifying that he was arrested by police and booked at Kamukunji Police Station.

"He was booked at Kamukunji Police Station and later released pending Forensic Analysis of exhibits. Thereafter the file will be forwarded to the ODPP for direction."

The DCI cautioned the public against speculating on Keter's alleged abduction.

"Police are urging members of the public to refrain from acts of violence, hate speech, and malice for sustained peace and security in our beloved country," DCI further stated.

This statement follows an incident where Keter was forced out of his car in Kileleshwa on Sunday 30th, with his wife and children witnessing the event in horror.

Faith Odhiambo, President of the Law Society of Kenya, later disclosed that Keter had been taken to Kamukunji Police Station.

Keter, known for his vocal criticism of the current government, has called for protests against Kenya's Kwanza administration.

His arrest occurs amid ongoing abductions of perceived organizers of recent protests against the unpopular Finance Bill 2024, which saw protesters storm Parliament.
