On Friday March 10th the purge of Ruto’s government to clear out employees and appointees of former President Uhuru Kenyatta came falling on Uhuru's appointees in the ministry of tourism.
Standard Media journalist Najma Ishmael is among the five members of the Board of Directors whose appointments have been revoked by CS Tourism Peninnah Malonza.
The revocation of their appointment of Najma and the other four was through a notice released on Friday
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (1) (g) of the Tourism Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage revokes the appointment of five members," the notice reads in part.
The revocation comes a day after the journalist resigned from the Mombasa based media house. The award-winning news anchor resigned from Standard Group PLC on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
The other members who faced the same fate include, Kevin Muasya, Alais Lenana Momoi, Isaac Muchiri Njang, and communication and digital strategist Pauline Njoroge.
The CS did not give any reason as to why the five had been fired nor did she make any immediate appointments replacing them.
Najma had been appointed by former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala as a member of the Board of Directors replacing Pauline Njoroge whose appointment had been revoked following controversial remarks she had made on social media in regards to the ministry.
Malonza’s directive brings about questions on whether Pauline’s revocation had been affected and if at all she had been replaced by journalist Najma Ishmael or if Najma was just an addition to the Board.
