The controversial ex-governor Mike Sonko of Nairobi County has filed a lawsuit against the Supreme Court alleging bias, a lack of independence, and procedural injustice that cost him the governorship of Mombasa and a loss of campaign funds.
He also decries the loss of campaign funds that were directly contributed by him in an attempt to vie for the governor elections.
Sonko, who petitioned the Constitution Court in Mombasa, claimed that the supreme court's denial of his right to a hearing was caused not only by irrelevant but also by obvious bias.
“I have spent considerable amounts of funds in the political process to vie for the position of governor of Mombasa County and the decision of the Supreme Court has harmed me financially,” he said.
He asks the High Court to rule that the Supreme Court's suit against the Clerk, Nairobi City County Assembly, who violated his right to a fair trial under Article 50 of the constitution.
Sonko requested the court to investigate the constitutionality of activities through his two attorneys
He said that despite his request through advocates following her biased radio comments, Chief Justice Martha Koome had refused to recuse herself.
The former governor is now asking the High Court to grant him damages for violating Article 50 and political rights in the sum of Sh15 million in addition to compensation for the loss of campaign fund donations summing up to Sh35 million.
