Isaac Mburu, a crime reformist has taken it upon himself to introduce the little-known sport; Fencing, in the rural parts of Kenya.

After spending four years in crime and escaping with bullet wounds in an ordeal that most saw him lose his life, Mburu stumbled on Coach Steve Okalo; a National fencing coach in 2019 who introduced him to fencing, a sport that later became a darling.

In the same year, he was able to quickly rose through the ranks and represent Kenya in Cairo Egypt, a feat he achieved through his newly found interest and passion for the game.

It was after the championship that he started fencing in 2015 and managed a scholarship further, his coaching studies as a master of fencing in South Africa, after graduating he came to Kenya and quickly rose through the ranks. He also managed to attend the 2022 fencing world championship in Cairo and represented the Country in seniors men's Epee competition.

After years of growing the club, Mburu has embarked on spreading the sport to the rural parts of the country with the introduction of Fencing Mashinani.

According to Florence Wanjiru co- operate strategy head at Tsavora , Fencing Mashinani is an extension of Fencing Mtaani with the aim of spreading fencing awareness and giving people across the country equal opportunities to learn about the sport.

‘'We are spreading the sport across the country, currently, we have started in Nairobi and counties adjacent to the city such as Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos and Nakuru. We hope to help mitigate certain social issues that mostly affect the youth by inspiring them to participate in the sport''. said Florence Wanjiru.

Currently, Tsavora fencing club is coaching four international schools with a purpose of promoting the sport.
