Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issues guidelines to parents and road users ahead of school reopening amidst the ongoing heavy rainy season.

In a press release, the CS emphasized the importance of drivers following traffic regulations to guarantee the safety of children returning to school.

He warned that drivers disregarding traffic laws or attempting to cross hazardous waters would face consequences for endangering other road users.

“To minimize risks, drivers should maintain a safe distance, slow down and exercise patience in areas with heavy rain or flooding.”

“Drivers who endanger the lives of other road users by ignoring traffic regulations or crossing dangerous waters will be held accountable for their actions,” he stated.

With the intensity of the ongoing floods, Kipchumba Murkomen also reaffirmed that the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Police will strengthen enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure safety for all road users.

Additionally, he urged parents to play a pivotal role in ensuring their children's safety by selecting safe routes and coordinating with school administrators to establish secure pick-up and drop-off points.

“Parents also play a key role in ensuring their children’s safety. They should choose safe routes and coordinate with school administrators to set up safe pick-up and drop-off points. They should also release children on their trips back to school early,” he added.
