Six Officials from KPA and three from East Africa were on Wednesday arraigned before a Mombasa Anti-corruption court for allegedly engaging in graft.
The nine were arrested by EACC Detectives from the Mombasa Regional Office Over graft involving 62 million tenders.
A statement from EACC confirming the arrest reads
"Detectives from the EACC Mombasa Regional Office have arrested nine suspects, including six officials of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), over a graft involving KSh 62 million. The investigations established that the suspects executed a fraudulent scheme to embezzle public funds through a tender awarded to a company linked to them."
The accused persons have been charged with; conflict of interest, fraudulent acquisition of public property, and forgery of the documents used in the scam, Money laundering: Contrary to Section 3(a)(i) as read with Section 16 of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act, No.9 of 2009

"Between January 2015 and June 11, 2018, within the republic of Kenya, being a public officer of a public body, to wit senior clerical officer, Kenya ports authority, an agent and an account signatory of Chemiso East Africa respectively, jointly and knowingly engaged in an arrangement in connection with KSh 62, 732,772.74 received in respect to tender number KPA/036/2014-15/CE,” reads part of the statement.
The accused individuals, including high-ranking KPA officials and representatives of a private company, are:
· Yobesh Oyaro – Former Head of Procurement and Supplies, KPA
· David Angwenyi - Member of the Evaluation Committee, KPA
· Norah Mugambi - Member of the Evaluation Committee, KPA
· Athanase Wambari - Member of the Evaluation Committee, KPA
· Robert Bosuben - Senior Clerical Officer at the Civil Engineering Department, KPA
· David Arika - Member of the Evaluation Committee, KPA
· Azenath Kwamboka Mageto - Agent of Chemiso East Africa
· Rose Cherotich - Account signatory of Chemiso East Africa
· Idd Arube Nanyang - Agent of Chemiso East Africa
