On December 21, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua pleaded with his boss William Ruto to give him the opportunity to further his study. Speaking at the inaugural launch of the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County, Gachagua described how one of his senior coworkers is a professor, which frequently leaves him perplexed during meetings. "Your Excellency, I still have a lot to learn. When my workload lessens, you'll give me permission to pursue my education. A professor is also one of my senior coworkers. I sometimes get lost in meetings," he admitted.

Gachagua said that because of the difference in their academic backgrounds, working with the Head of State presents several difficulties. "My academic level is pretty low, as seen by the work the President has given me. My job is difficult because I only have one degree whereas the President has three, he said. The police officers were advised to continue their education by the second in command. "Make sure you continue your education even if there won't be a wage raise because getting a better degree often affects pay. Good education is always a good idea, he continued.

In his remarks, the DP also pleaded with the Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, to show the officers how to lead well. He contended that the officers' lack of professionalism makes them a laughing stock throughout the nation. Kenyans frequently make fun of our cops, especially when they attempt to discuss a crime scene in an embarrassing way. He added, "We are not asking police officers to use their firearms inappropriately; rather, they need to defend themselves against armed criminals before they can defend us. On the other hand, Ruto stated that since he had worked on the plan while serving as Deputy President, the institution's opening was a dream come true.

"We had suggested it roughly 20 years ago; these 100 acres are being used for police leadership. It seemed excessive at the time, but now that the police force has grown, it will be fully utilized," he said.
