Doctors at Maragua level IV hospital in Murang’a conducted a successful operation to remove a scalpel that was left in the abdomen of Felistah Wafula 11 years ago during her first delivery 11 years ago.
As the years went by the doctors started suspecting that the problem was bigger than ulcers.
After several scans, the doctors realized that her abdomen was hosting a metallic object and was booked for a theatre at Maragua Level IV hospital where the scalpel was retrieved.
Dr Kairo Kimende, the hospital superintendent, who led the surgical team, said that the blade was found lodged between the uterus and small intestines.
He further explained that the blade was lying in such a way that it made Ms Nafula lose the ability to conceive.
Ma Nafula said the blade almost ended her marriage since her husband was craving another kid and a decade later it was hard to understand why she couldn’t conceive.
Her husband Simon Mungai said that he was patient with her and helped her seek medical attention not only for the kid but also to find a cure for her abdomen distend that led to her passing out sometimes.
Mwangi explained the journey of visiting different hospitals to seek treatment and a series of examinations to find a cure for her infertility.
Mwangi is calling out to the government to help find the medics accountable for dumping the scalpel in his wife’s abdomen and hold them accountable.
He wants the medics who handled his wife’s birth to explain how that happened and compensate them for the troubles, anguish and losses suffered.
