In a heartwarming and determined feat, a 13-year-old girl from the Butere area, Diana Nyarotso, has captured the attention of many by walking over 15 kilometres to Mumias with the sole wish of joining St Mary's Girls High School.

Clad in her familiar blue uniform from Ebulafu Primary School, Diana carried with her an envelope containing the coveted invitation letter to join St Mary's High School, along with a copy of her impressive KCPE exam results.

Her black shoes, now covered in dust and turned brown, bore witness to the arduous journey she undertook to reach her desired destination.

Explaining her extraordinary journey, Diana shared, "I studied at Ebulafu Primary School, where I scored 375 in my KCPE exam and earned a place at St Mary's High School.

However, my father passed away in 2012, and my mother, who is unwell, cannot afford to pay my school fees. That's why I woke up at dawn and started walking, hoping to persuade the headmaster of St Mary's to accept me into Form One. I am committed to my studies and aspire to become a lawyer, aiming to help the disadvantaged in society."

Upon approaching the Principal of St Mary's High School, Monicah Buchichi, Diana's story touched a chord.

Mrs. Buchichi expressed her astonishment at the girl's dedication and, upon further inquiry, discovered the challenges she faced due to her family's financial constraints.

Without hesitation, the principal decided to admit Diana and pledged to mobilize resources to ensure she has all the necessary support for her education.

This inspiring tale exemplifies the resilience and determination of young individuals striving for education against all odds.

St Mary's High School, under the compassionate leadership of Principal Monicah Buchichi, stands as a beacon of hope for students like Diana, proving that education should be a right accessible to all, regardless of their background.
