On Monday, February 27, Governor of Trans Nzoia George Natembeya gave the go-ahead for constructing a cutting-edge sports facility.

In a tweet on his social media page, the former Rift Valley Regional commissioner estimates that the 50,000-capacity modern stadium will cost Ksh650 million.

Once finished, the Tranzoia-based stadium will house a training room among other amenities and serve as a venue for important national and sporting events.

"This project will address infrastructure and training equipment deficiencies and provide state-of-the-art training equipment to gifted youths from Trans Nzoia County," Natembeya noted.

Before the project was commissioned, St. Antony's Boys High School and Goseta Boys played in a final game and both teams were awarded jerseys by the Tranzoia Governor

He gave the teams cash prizes; St Antonys Boys won Ksh 50,000, and Goseta Boys High School took home Ksh 25,000.

The project's commissioning coincided with Ababu Namwamba, the secretary of the sports ministry, prohibiting the building of new stadiums nationwide.

The directive from Namwamba ordered all stadium construction to cease until an audit was completed.
