Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday scaled Mount Kenya, relishing nature and praying for the country.
DP Gachagua is attending the four-day retreat for Cabinet and Senior Ranks of the Executive, hosted by President William Ruto at the Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari Club.
In a heartfelt message, he stated:
There is a certain calmness about nature that reminds us of who we are as human beings. To come this close to the wonders of the world and to marvel at the works of God is a truly refreshing experience.
Mt. Kenya is mythical. It is mysterious.
The same awe our forefathers had over it and many other natural features still hold a grip over us. Our mountains, lakes, rivers, ocean, and forests are a strong link to our roots. This is a reminder of the greatness of our past and the possibilities in our collective future.
For the second day running, I trekked up the mountain in readiness for another day of working with H. E President William Ruto and other members of The Executive to make our country great again.
On my way through the Mawingu Trail, I couldn’t help but notice the diverse wildlife around us. The waterbucks and gazelles, against the backdrop of the rising sun, came together to make a near perfect picture.
The temperatures today, just like yesterday, were also low, but this only served as a motivation for me to get closer to nature and experience the magic of our undisturbed wilderness, for great things are born out of hardship.
Such experiences should be treasured by each one of us. They refresh us and remind us of the power of God over all else in the world.
When I got to the end of the trail, I once again said a prayer for our President, H.E. William Samoei Ruto our country, and our people. I also made three other prayers while facing the Mountain.
I prayed that God gives us rain so that our hard-working people can once again see and enjoy the fruits of their labour from their farms.
I prayed that God delivers our young men and women from drugs and to specifically touch the hearts of those who sell drugs to our young people; to change their ways and let our youth become what they were destined to be.
I also prayed that God heals our land from all forms of cancer that are ravaging our population. Cancer has forced families into fundraising events every weekend as they try to clear bills. They are left with bills and in debt on the many occasions that the disease has claimed their loved ones.
I believe God has heard my prayers. The Mountain is calm. Mlima iko sawa. Kenya is on the right path.
